Martin Garrix singer!
Published on April 24th, 2025
2025 is off to a big and exciting start for Martin Garrix. After reclaiming the title of #1 DJ in the world (again!) last October in the DJ Mag Top 100, he’s now surprised fans by stepping into a new role: singer. Martin, who used to stay behind the decks, is now stepping up to the mic.
As a producer, Martin has always used his voice, mainly to record voice memos whenever a melody came to mind. He often transforms these vocal ideas into full tracks, like a magician with FL Studio. He also enjoys singing rough versions of a song before finding the right vocalist to bring it to life.
But recently, something changed! Martin co-wrote a few tracks with Arijit Singh, one of India’s most successful singers, who performs in Hindi. For the demos, Martin sang the English sections himself and to his surprise, friends encouraged him to keep his vocals. The result? Martin officially sings on “Angels for Each Other” and on “Weightless”, a huge and unexpected step. He premiered “Angels for Each Other” live on stage
with Arijit Singh on March 14 in Mumbai (see our coverage on page 4) — and fans were blown away.
When Martin was asked whether we should expect to hear his voice more often, he said:
“These two songs were really special for me. I’m not going to sing on every Garrix upcoming songs, but if it’s the right song, with the right lyrics, in the right key for my voice,
I’ll do it. Some songs will have my voice, and some won’t.”
Coming soon are “Mad”, featuring Lauv, and “Our Time”, his collab with Afrojack and David Guetta featuring Zack Hall — but knowing Martin, there are definitely more surprises in the works.
A Musical Journey Without Borders
In early 2025, Martin Garrix and Arijit Singh unveiled two collaborative tracks that bridged cultural and musical divides. The first, “Angels for Each Other,” released on March 13, marked a significant milestone for both artists. Arijit Singh, renowned for his emotive Hindi vocals, ventured into English lyrics for the first time, blending them seamlessly with his native language. Garrix, known for his dynamic electronic productions, also contributed his own vocals, adding a personal touch to the track.
Following this, on April 11, they released “Weightless,” a track that delves deeper into the concept of communal harmony. The song’s hypnotic beats and Singh’s soulful vocals are complemented by a music video directed by Bijoy Shetty, which showcases the Indian tradition of forming human pyramids during the Krishna Janmashtami festival. This visual metaphor underscores the song’s message: the strength found in unity and collective effort.
Fun Fact
Both tracks were co-written with Bono, adding a layer of lyrical depth to the compositions. These collaborations not only highlight the artists’ versatility but also their commitment to creating music that transcends borders and speaks to universal human experiences in Mumbai, later releasing a concert video of the performance.
