On August 27, 2021, Martin Garrix returned to the stage for his first full live show since the global shutdown of early 2020. The setting was Electric Love Festival in Austria, and the moment carried special weight. That night, he introduced a brand-new intro track created with Matisse & Sadko and Swedish vocalist John Martin, instantly becoming one of the most talked-about IDs of his post-pandemic comeback.

The collaboration reunited Martin with long-time partners. He had previously worked with Matisse & Sadko on tracks such as “Together,” “Forever,” and “Hold On,” shaping much of the melodic progressive sound associated with STMPD RCRDS. John Martin had already collaborated with him on “Now That I’ve Found You” and “Higher Ground,” bringing his unmistakable emotional vocal tone back into the mix.

Fans initially referred to the unreleased track as “Wide Away,” a working title that circulated online after the Electric Love premiere. Over the following months, the song became a staple opening moment in Martin’s festival sets. The official title, “Won’t Let You Go,” was confirmed ahead of its release on December 10, 2021.

With its euphoric build-up, anthemic topline, and explosive festival drop, the track captured the feeling of returning to large-scale live events after nearly two years of restrictions. It closed 2021 on a high note and marked the beginning of a new touring chapter as Martin prepared to return to stages worldwide in 2022.
