Once upon Martin in America

Published on October 10th, 2025

Martin started his US journey early in his career. In 2014, following the success of Animals and his European performances, he performed at the most prestigious American festivals including Ultra Miami, EDC New York at MetLife Stadium or Lollapalooza. He droped his first EP “Gold Skies” for the American market. This EP peaked at Top 6 of the Dance Billboard charts.

In the fall of 2014, Martin Garrix teased a New Year’s Eve party at a secret location in New York, announcing special guests Oliver Heldens, Jay Hardway and Julian Jordan. The event eventually took place at Pacha NYC, one of the city’s most iconic clubs at the time, and perfectly captured the early energy of a new generation of Dutch DJs taking over the US scene. During that same winter, Martin Garrix signed a residency contract with Omnia Nightclub in Las Vegas, marking the beginning of a long and important relationship with the city.

In 2015, Martin Garrix returned to Ultra Miami for the second year in a row. This performance became a milestone when he surprised the crowd by bringing global superstar Usher on stage to perform their brand-new collaboration “Don’t Look Down” live for the very first time. The moment quickly went viral and confirmed Garrix’s growing crossover appeal beyond the EDM scene.

Later that year, Martin Garrix teamed up with Tiësto to shoot a commercial for 7UP in the Mojave Desert, not far from Las Vegas. The campaign symbolized the passing of the torch between two generations of Dutch electronic music and further strengthened Garrix’s presence in the American mainstream.

The year 2016 marked a major turning point for Martin Garrix in the United States. In March, his Ultra Miami performance reached a completely new level with the arrival of Gabe Fraboni in his creative team. From that moment on, his shows evolved into fully immersive experiences, combining powerful music with advanced lighting design, pyrotechnics and large-scale visuals. That same Ultra week was also special for another reason, as Martin officially launched his own label STMPD RCRDS with an exclusive party at Story Nightclub in Miami.

2016 was also the year Martin Garrix made his debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, one of the most watched talk shows in the United States. He performed “In the Name of Love” in an acoustic version, playing guitar alongside Bebe Rexha on vocals. The following year, he returned to the show with Dua Lipa to perform “Scared to Be Lonely”. Dua Lipa was also invited as his special guest during his Coachella set, further highlighting the international impact of their collaboration.

In 2018, Martin Garrix discovered Mike Yung, a singer from Philadelphia who had gone viral thanks to videos of him performing in subway stations. Touched by his story and voice, Martin invited him to the studio, which led to the creation of the track “Dreamer”, a song built around hope, resilience and second chances.

In 2019, Martin Garrix teamed up with Macklemore and Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy for “Summer Days”, a summer anthem that blended pop, hip-hop and electronic influences, and received strong radio airplay across the United States.

In October 2022, Martin Garrix celebrated his return to the number one spot of the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs by recording a special set on top of the Empire State Building in New York. The performance symbolized both his global success and his strong connection with the US. Around the same period, Martin Garrix was featured multiple times on massive billboards in Times Square, as Spotify highlighted several of his releases including “Used To Love”, “Hero” and “Told You So”, further cementing his status as one of the most visible electronic artists in the country.
