The track arrived during the global COVID-19 pandemic, a period when festivals and large-scale events were on hold worldwide. Musically, “Pressure” stands apart from Martin’s euphoric festival anthems. Instead, it explores a deeper, more minimal, club-oriented sound built around a tight groove and restrained production. The darker atmosphere and subtle build reflect a side of his style closer to underground house influences.
Tove Lo brings her distinctive vocal tone and lyrical intensity to the record. The song revolves around emotional tension and desire, themes that align naturally with her artistic identity. Her performance adds a raw and intimate dimension to the production.
Martin openly explained that the absence of festivals gave him space to experiment. Without the pressure of writing large-scale festival drops, he felt free to explore different creative directions. In that context, “Pressure” represents a shift toward a more experimental and club-driven sound compared to his previous mainstream releases.
“Now that there’s no more festivals, it feels weird to make euphoric festival songs… so it opens up a new section of my brain where I become more experimental. A song like Pressure, isn’t a song that I would be able to release a year ago . Now is the time to try out new things”.
